As the leaves begin to change and summer slowly cools into autumn, we’re reflecting on a busy summer at Hear, and a recent highlight was our trip to Cardigan Show. 

Following a successful turnout at Aberystwyth Show, the Hear team was once again packing up the kit and taking the clinic on the road – this time, to Sioe Sirol Amaethyddol Aberteifi/Cardigan County Agricultural Show! 

The sun shone for us again and we had another brilliant day meeting and speaking with visitors from across the country about our clinic, our services, and the importance of our hearing.  

The day started bright and early as we arrived on the showground and set up for the day ahead. The early bird catches the worm, as they say, and this was true for us as we secured a prime spot for the marquee. Look at that view of the bay! 

The Show had plenty to offer, from a petting area filled with baby animals (popular with adults and children alike), to the large drone showcasing futuristic fertilising equipment, to the food hall filled with delicious homemade treats.

Back at the Hear tent, we were busy conducting online hearing screenings, booking hearing tests and wax removals back at the clinics, and discussing the importance of hearing protection to visitors of all ages. It was a brilliant opportunity to raise the profile of our Cardigan clinic and let more local people know about the services available to them on their doorstep.

We also found ourselves neighbours with the NHS wellness tent, where they were offering blood pressure and diabetes tests to attendees. This proximity gave us the opportunity to chat with their team from the Integrated Health Centre about Hear and offer our private service to support their waiting lists, making them aware that patients who don’t wish to wait for an NHS appointment can be signposted to us. 

The service goes both ways, as Nick and Sophie also had their blood pressure taken and blood sugar levels read by the team. 

Visitors had travelled from across Wales and beyond to enjoy a day on the Maes. Even with the Eisteddfod Cenedlaethol taking place just down the road in Llantwd, there was a great turnout. In fact, this might have been to our benefit – it turns out that quite a few Eisteddfod attendees must have taken a wrong turning and had mistakenly arrived at Cardigan Show instead! 

As a local councillor said to us, “You really need to be seeing both if you’re down here.” Come for the culture, stay for the hearing advice! 

From the entire team at Hear, we’d like to thank all the visitors who took the time to stop by our stand and chat to us about the importance of our hearing health. We hope you all had a fantastic day out at the Show – and perhaps even learnt a thing or two about how you can better protect your hearing! We know the children enjoyed (the lollies were definitely a hit!) and we hope you did, too.

From holding conversations about hearing protection to enjoying all the attractions the Show had to offer, we all had a great day out on the showground. When reflecting on the day, our founder had the following to say:
